A computer science professor in the University of Calgary, Tom Keenan said that in 911 emergency calls, it is still better and more reliable to use landline tekephones than Voice over Internet Protocols. He said to CBC News that for elderly parents and small children, landline is more convenient because VoIP has certain limitations that can be a drawback for 911 emergencies. First of all, according to Prof. Keenan, landlines connects you to the 911 operator directly and can be tracked automatically because of the address and phone number attachment. Whereas in using VoIP, 911 operators cannot track you automatically because there is no physical address that links you to their signal. With this, call center operators should reroute the 911 calls to the operator manually.
