VoIP Toll Scams Abound

Category: Features, General, Information — Greg @ 11:20 am

As the service becomes widespread the world over, it is getting the attention of scam artists who are using it to scam people when it comes to tolls in metered services. Many people have shifted communications to ISP providers who offer specific VoIP services that are metered based on usage. People have been noticing some discrepancies and like the unauthorized long distance calls with traditional telephony services, they to are being duped for higher rates that they have been using.
There are a lot of issues that still have to be addressed to make VoIP more enticing to the biggest customers, businesses that still have to adapt the system. Reliability is still the main issue for the internet is still quite reliant on old cables used for traditional telephony and breakdown is still a frequent concern. Wireless technologies are taking some of the strain but it too is not bullet-proof enough to become as solid and reliable as we would want it to be. Fraud seems to be part of most businesses yet with VoIP, the whole system being transparent from the user, charges and fees are settled without too much fuss, that is till the bill comes.
